The DJI RS 4 Mini is a compact and lightweight stabilizer designed to meet the needs of content creators and independent filmmakers. Thanks to an optimized design, it facilitates transitions and transport while offering powerful stabilization for a wide variety of configurations.
This model stands out with its 2nd generation automated axis locks, allowing you to save valuable time during setup or storage. The structure features Teflon™ coatings on the axis arms to reduce friction and ensure smoother balancing during use.
The DJI RS 4 Mini is a stabilizer designed to offer increased maneuverability thanks to a main structure of aluminum alloy and plastic weighing approximately 890 g. It integrates second-generation automated axis locks, enabling efficient locking for transitions and transport. This architecture allows the axis arms to be folded to optimize space in a storage bag.
To ensure fluid movement, the device uses Teflon™ layers on the pan and roll axes to reduce friction during balancing. The system supports a recommended payload between 0.4 and 2 kg, including various mirrorless cameras and vlog devices, as well as smartphones via a dedicated mount sold separately.
The device offers several operational modes to adapt to creative intentions: PF mode for horizontal movements, PTF mode for vertical or tilted movements, and FPV mode for full rotation on three axes. The Roll 360 3D mode allows for a specific 90° rotation of the tilt axis followed by a full pan rotation for visual time-tunnel effects.
The Responsive Tracking mode improves gimbal responsiveness during start and stop phases, optimizing fast orbital shots. The user can also configure custom modes by manually adjusting the behavior of each axis. The maximum controlled rotation speed reaches 360°/s on all three axes, offering great latitude of movement in various shooting conditions.
The tracking workflow relies on the use of an external intelligent tracking module, which attaches beautifully to the device. This system keeps the human subject in the frame with two composition methods: automatic subject centering or maintaining the current framing. These features are operable via the gimbal trigger or predefined gestures detected by the sensor.
Gesture control offers intuitive interaction: an open palm starts or stops tracking, while a V sign triggers or stops recording. This module operates within a distance range of 0.5 to 10 meters, provided the ambient illumination is greater than 20 lux. These tracking functions are supported only in PF and PTF modes.
Power is provided by an integrated 2S LiPo battery (model BHX724-3100-7.2) with a capacity of 3100 mAh. Maximum battery life reaches 13 hours, measured with gear level, stationary, and with the gimbal perfectly balanced. It is important to note that this operating time significantly decreases when the gimbal is actively moving during filming.
Recharging is done via the USB-C port with specifications of 9 V/2.5 A, allowing a full charge in about 1 hour and 50 minutes in a controlled environment at 25 °C with a 30 W charger. The recommended charging temperature range is between 5 and 40 °C, ensuring battery integrity during energy maintenance operations.
The DJI RS 4 Mini integrates third-generation native vertical shooting, allowing you to switch between horizontal and vertical orientations in less than 10 seconds. The device is compatible with the Ronin app, which requires iOS 14.0 or Android 9.0 or later version to function. Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity facilitates shutter and zoom control with compatible cameras.
The device features a touchscreen for navigating settings, including support for multiple languages. The folded dimensions of 236 x 64 x 316 mm and the operating temperature range of -10 to 45 °C define its physical limits of use. Finally, the NATO port and 1/4\"-20 mounting hole allow for the addition of compatible accessories to expand possible configurations.
