Optical Design and Sensor
The Osmo Action 6 is equipped with a new square 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensor, offering extended dynamic resolution up to 13.5 stops. This sensor enables video recording up to 4K/120 fps in 4:3 format and supports Normal mode recording up to 8K/30 fps. The device also includes a custom 4K mode, allowing freedom for subsequent cropping into various image formats.
The lens offers a variable aperture ranging from f/2.0 to f/4.0, a first for this range of DJI cameras. This flexibility allows for adaptation to various lighting scenarios, with f/2.0 being optimal for low light. The star effect option at f/4.0 is specifically recommended for nocturnal urban environments with point light sources, improving the creative rendering of night shots.
Stabilization and Video Modes
Stabilization relies on RockSteady 3.0 technology, with a version 3.0+ available to maintain sequence fluidity during movement. HorizonSteady and HorizonBalancing features ensure the horizon is maintained during shots, supported for 4K, 2.7K and 1 080p videos at frame rates of 60 fps or less. These systems are designed to compensate for vibrations during dynamic activities.
Additionally, the SuperNight mode is intended for nocturnal capture, supporting resolutions up to 4K at 60 fps. Subject tracking keeps the target centered in the frame dynamically, although this function is limited to horizontal shots and is not compatible with the macro lens. The Slow Motion mode offers options up to 8x in 1 080p.
Performance and Battery Life
The device is designed to operate in extreme temperature conditions, from -20 °C to 45 °C. The 1 950 mAh battery life is rated up to 240 minutes, measured under laboratory conditions at 25 °C with a specific configuration including 1 080p/24 fps resolution, RockSteady activated, Wi-Fi, gesture control, and voice commands disabled, with screens off.
The Osmo Action 6 has 50 GB of usable internal storage, expandable via a microSD card. When using high-performance modes such as 4K/120 fps or SuperNight mode, the camera consumes more power, which may cause a temperature rise. The device integrates thermal management designed for prolonged recording sessions, while considering the impact of the operating environment on real operating time.
Waterproofing and Underwater Use
The device features native waterproofing up to 20 meters deep. For diving use, it is necessary to correctly close the battery compartment, the USB-C port, and ensure the lens protection is tightly secured. The use of the waterproof case is recommended for prolonged dives or environments subjected to high water impact pressure, allowing it to reach a depth of 60 meters.
An integrated water pressure gauge records depth and dive duration data, while automatically activating or deactivating recording upon immersion and surfacing. This gauge functions from 1 meter underwater, without the waterproof case. It is recommended to rinse the camera with clean water and let it dry completely after any immersion in an aquatic environment.
Audio and Connectivity
The OsmoAudio™ system allows direct connection to two DJI microphone transmitters, facilitating stereo recording without needing an external receiver. The device is also equipped with an internal array of three microphones with a wind noise suppression algorithm to enhance the clarity of voice recordings. These audio connectivity options are designed to improve the sound quality of vlogs and interviews.
Wireless connectivity relies on the Wi-Fi 6.0 and Bluetooth 5.1 protocol. File transfer to the DJI Mimo app or cloud services can be performed via Wi-Fi. EIRP (Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power) complies with local regulations, with specific limitations for the 5.8 GHz band in CE zones.
